Modern food production requires sophisticated products and systems to ensure economic returns are achieved and that adverse environmental impacts are mitigated. Plant & Food Research works closely with growers and producers to discover new science and generate technologies designed to help industry.
We carry out both basic and applied science in order to establish ways and means of best managing the most critical issues affecting the industries with which we work. The results include decision management support tools, new technologies, computer modelling software and improved operating systems.
Scientists in the Sustainable Production Portfolio also work closely with their colleagues across the Institute to trial new products and systems to control pests and diseases, and to refine the production methods for newly bred fruit, vegetable and broadacre crops.
